Palestine Legal and Jewish Voice for Peace Respond to Carnegie Mellon's Misrepresentations of Student Activists for Palestine

July 31, 2026 – Carnegie Mellon University's statement is yet another desperate attempt to malign and attack its own students for speaking out in support of Palestinian rights. In response to a growing call from civil society groups defending students' right to free expression––including Palestine Legal, Jewish Voice for Peace, and the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), among others––the university is once again grasping at straws to try and justify baseless disciplinary actions it should have never initiated. CMU's statement continues to attack its own students, including Jewish students involved in painting the Fence, by insultingly invoking and drawing connections to the horrific antisemitic Tree of Life shooting. CMU's comparison is inflammatory and offensive.

Palestine Legal, which is representing the student activists, will continue to fiercely defend our client's right to free expression, and we continue to call on CMU to do the right thing and close the investigations against all 10 campus activists. Read our full press release on the case here.
