This week, Palestine Legal published our 2021 Year-in-Review documenting trends in backlash facing the movement for Palestinian rights in the U.S. and the movement’s resilience against them. As people rose up in solidarity with Palestinians, Palestine Legal witnessed an intensification of repression strategies by Israel and its allies in the United States as they attempted to thwart a shift in public opinion in favor of Palestinian rights.

New Anti-Boycott Bills Pop Up Even as Texas Law Blocked Over Constitutional Concerns

A coalition of civil rights and human rights groups urged Virginia lawmakers to oppose a new anti-boycott bill targeting advocacy for Palestinian rights. Palestine Legal sent a letter to state lawmakers on February 7 joined by eight organizations, including the Center for Constitutional Rights and the Council on American-Islamic Relations. If enacted, H.B. 1161 would unconstitutionally infringe on Virginians’ core political speech, in violation of the First Amendment.
