Palestine Legal Joins Community and Civil Rights Groups to Demand an End to UCSF's Unlawful Practices

Palestine Legal joins eleven other community and civil rights organizations to demand that the University of California, San Francisco, end its discriminatory campaign of intimidating and silencing students, faculty, staff, and other members of the UCSF community who have spoken out against Israel’s genocidal attacks on Palestinians.

Dr. Rupa Marya, a professor of medicine who has spent decades documenting the impact of structural racism on health and medicine and advocating for health equity, is one of the latest targets of the institution. On January 2, Dr. Marya tweeted a critique of Zionism and questioned its impact on health outcomes not only in Gaza but also in the United States. Despite being aware the Dr. Marya had faced death threats for her efforts to protect Palestinian life, UCSF added fuel to the fire with posts across its social media platforms misrepresenting and condemning her statements.

Faculty and allies report that Dr. Marya is not alone in facing anti-Palestinian censorship from UCSF and that students, faculty, and staff have been silenced, told to remove cultural clothing, and have been ignored by UCSF leadership when requesting support for doxxing and harassment.
