Steven Salaita Tours Chicago Campuses, Speaks out about Censorship on Palestine

PSLS is co-sponsoring Steven Salaita's tour of Chicago campuses as he speaks out about the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's actions to terminate him for his tweets about Gaza just weeks before he was set to start his tenured position.  Salaita and his wife had already resigned from their jobs at Virginia Tech and were preparing to move to Urbana-Champaign. The University's decision to terminate Salaita was a result of pressure from donors and Israel advocacy organizations who complained to the university about Salaita's tweets lamenting Israel's atrocities in Gaza this summer. Come out this week to hear Salaita speak, and to support him and his family after UIUC's decision to terminate him in violation of his First Amendment rights and principles of academic freedom.

Tuesday: University of Chicago, 5:30 p.m., International House, 1414 E. 59th St.

Wednesday: Columbia College, 7 p.m., 600 S. Michigan Ave., Ferguson Lecture Hall, Room 101.

Thursday: DePaul University, 4 p.m., 1036 W. Belden Ave., O'Connell Hall, Room 360.
