Keybase Beginners Guide
What is Keybase?
Keybase is an open-source, end-to-end encrypted collaboration space featuring secure messaging and file sharing.
Getting Started
Download Keybase on your computer and/or phone.
Once installed, open Keybase and select “create an account.”
Choose a username. Note: you cannot change your username once it has been created.
Choose a name for this particular device (this will be public). Email and phone # are optional.
Click “Finish.”
You will see a notification under “teams” once Palestine Legal adds you.
Join the team.
Channels
To join a channel(s), navigate to “Chat.”
Click the gear icon next to our Big Team.
Select “Browse Channels.”
Join the #welcome channel and any channels that interest you.
Check the posted message on the #welcome channel.
Peruse the channels or post messages pertaining to the topic.
Chatting
To post a chat in a channel, simply select a channel and write your message.
Navigate to the #welcome channel.
If you haven’t already, introduce yourself with your name, location, and practice area(s).
To send a direct message to a user or subset of users, click “new chat.”
Search for the Keybase user(s) and select their usernames.
Click “start.”
Accessing Files
In the left-hand side bar, click “files.”
To access our team’s files, click “team.”
Click our team name.
Files are divided into folders by topic.
Click on the individual folder to view its contents.
